CHARACTER INFORMATION:

Name: Sheik
Alias, if any: The name itself is an assumed one, his true name being lost over the years even to himself.
Series: Sheik makes an appearance in The Legend of Zelda, as the magical disguise the Princess of the game adopted. I’m following Ocarina of Time manga canon.

Mode of entry into the RP: Resurrected character.

Brief description on how you expect your character to start out: Awaking on board ship.

History:
The Sheikah race, from their very creation, were sworn to serve the Royal Family of Hyrule. Adopting an eye as their symbol, they were the omniscient shadows of the Hylians, considered to be as much a part of darkness as the ruling race were of light. Sheikah were the elite soldiers, the guards of all things secret and sacred, the ones who never left the side of their monarchs. Quiet amongst themselves and others, the Sheikah were something barely tangible, something barely even seen, figures in the corner of one’s eye, silent and strange. They were considered a tribe of shadows, the contrast to the Hylian’s light – each needed the other to survive. Therefore, when the Hylian Royalty did, at one point, betray their faithful shadows, leading to great losses, what else could the Sheikah do but continue as things had always been? At this time, the tear was added to the eye, creating the Weeping Eye of the Sheikah, a symbol of truth, and of the all-seeing shadows of the Hylians.

Sheik, as many of those he was born alongside, was therefore trained to serve. The Sheikah way of life was a harsh and extreme one, beyond the eyes of others. So too were those raised by it. Young Sheikah were trained in endurance, in speed, in power. They were taught how to kill a man and how to knock him unconcious, which plants could be used as a poison and which as the antidote. Every weapon was dabbled with, alongside magic, scholarly lessons falling into a secondary place – Sheikah were to be masters of as much as possible, and if they hadn’t mastered it, they’d most certainly be trying to. Growing up, Sheik was neither the most skilled, nor was he the least, though he made an excellent shadow, as was his true purpose - by the age of twenty, Sheik was serving the Royal Family.

This, however, was not to last. Before five years had past, Sheik died of a poisoned injury sustained whilst fighting. His death was quick, not a slow decay of the body but a swift end to breathing. It was better that way. It left the body whole.

Years passed, decades into centuries, until the events of the Imprisoning War forced the young Princess of the time, fleeing from the Black King with her Sheikah guardian, to seek the ultimate disguise. Her guardian was the one who suggested taking on the form of a Sheikah boy, and the Princess agreed. The conciousness of Sheik was resurrected as the Princess’ was stored away, a part of him. He was alive again, serving the Hylians once more. He complied to it without question.

In this form, he swore fealty to the Black King, Ganondorf, feigning loyalty to him – he claimed to be a Sheikah who refused to support the Hylians after their betrayal, though kept his allegiance frank when questioned over it – “We are a tribe of ‘shadows’. Without ‘substance’, we cannot exist. When I had no master, you appeared before me. That’s all.”

It was enough. Though doubted by other members of Ganondorf’s hierarchy, he remained a close servant, however, his agenda followed the Princess’ wishes, and it was the Hero, Link, who received his guidance, shadowed though that too was. It was Sheik who led the Hero closer to his goal, and Sheik who hinted at the weaknesses in Ganondorf’s plans. Eventually, discovered to be a traitor and heavily wounded, the enchantments binding him revealed who was hiding within him, and Sheik’s form was shed from the Princess. Hyrule was returned to peace, life continued, and Sheik’s spirit was honoured by those who knew of his involvement.

However, it was not laid to rest.

As a ghost, Sheik now wandered, nothing more than a spirit lost from the peace of death and without the strength to properly return to life. He was left formless and lost, watching each season fade into the next, watching the years pass. Time moved on, yet the spirit was unable to.

He watched, as the new Princess Zelda and the new Hero strove to save their dying world. He watched, as the ground of Hyrule was rent apart by some unseen and unknown force. He watched, as the silver ships came and took the last few survivors Hyrule had held on to. And so, resigning himself to finally be lost completely, to experience freedom, he finally felt himself complete again as the last few moments merged light and shadow and life and death.

Therefore, it was a great shock to him to wake up in a metal room, well and truly alive, with no semblance of anything else within him. Yet there was no choice but to walk again, was there? After all, shadows need substance to exist.

Personality:
It would be, upon first glance, easy to dismiss Sheik as someone apathetic and cold. He holds himself with an aloof, cool exterior, as one who is not touched by worry or weakness. He speaks when he must, and does so in a somewhat clipped tone that only serves to alienate him further, placing him seemingly out of reach to others, as intangible as the shadows he was thought to have come from. As with most of his people, purpose is of the highest importance – Sheik is never seen to be trifling with anything remotely frivolous, and generally acts exclusively as he must.

Sheik is driven and determined, though consequently is often hellishly stubborn once his mind is set upon a certain path. He favours keeping himself to himself, and it is extremely difficult to get close to him due to the distance he feels he must maintain. In any situation, no matter what it entails, Sheik strives to consider every possible thing that could happen in order to be prepared – such things are considered to be of utmost importance to Sheik, the reasoning for his careful planning and thinking.

Though generally one for quiet irritation rather than anger, when one does manage to rile him the colder aspect he presents all but disappears. This is one of the few circumstances in which the Sheikah’s more passionate side is shown, for he is certainly not incapable of being vicious, or, indeed, cruel. Sheik’s method fighting is without fear, yet it is also without honour, and this is yet another factor that makes him difficult to trust – however, despite this, many find it impossible not to be drawn to him, for he is as enigmatic as darkness itself.

Appearance:
Sheik

Sheik stands a few inches shorter than many men, which can make him appear to be less formidable than them. However, his lithe form is well-toned, built for a mix of strength and speed. This healthy appearance is furthered by his bronzed skin tone, even though this can only be seen on small expanses of skin, as Sheik always dresses in a way which covers everything from his feet to his nose, and wears his tousled blonde hair covering one of his crimson eyes. He favours tight fitting garments in darker colours, though is never seen without something bearing the emblem of his people, the Sheikah Eye of Truth. Beneath the mask he is never seen without, his features are soft, yet by no means enough to appear feminine, and like the ears of the Hylians Sheik once lived in the shadow of, his own are long and pointed, pierced once.

With his slight, yet masculine form, and fiery, warm colourings, Sheik appears to many as nothing short of exotic. This sense of mystery is only intensified by the fact that very few people, none alive, have seen his full face. Despite his expressive eyes, it is often difficult to tell how he is feeling or what he is thinking, and his most frequently seen expression is one of distant, detached intensity. Every movement Sheik makes is performed with graceful purpose, a feline sense of confidence that makes him appear virtually untouchable by any form of worry.

Abilities:
Physically, Sheik is a skilled fighter, relying upon his formidable flexibility and agility to stay out of harm’s way. Though he does depend more upon his ability to keep out of reach rather than delivering strong attacks, he knows where to hit to reap what damage, and strikes quickly and powerfully – as with every movement Sheik makes, every action must have a purpose. Although Sheik favours a pair of knives, he is trained with many things, and is never to be found without some kind of weapon. As one of the Sheikah, his extensive training from youth has left him with high levels of stamina and endurance, and he is far more powerful and capable than he appears.

When it comes to magic, Sheik has never had much of an aptitude for it, however, he does have the ability to seemingly appear and disappear at will, though cannot travel very far using it or he will use up too much energy. Possessing the Sheikah Eye of Truth, Sheik has some psychic ability, and is occasionally capable of clairvoyancy, precognition, or telepathy. This, however, is not something he has control over, and often makes little sense.

Finally, Sheik is in possession of a relic he was buried with; a simple, golden lyre. The music it is used to play, however, is often capable of sparking some emotion in those who hear it, be it calm, or nostalgia, or otherwise. For those particularly susceptible to it, he may even be able to excise some form of control whilst playing, his voice just as melodic and mysterious. However, this is rarely the case, and the spells are seldom more than a trifle to those with stronger wills.
